(239) 590-7390Construction management incorporates planning, coordinating and building skills to take a project from conception to completion. Construction Managers coordinate activities and work with a wide variety of professionals including architects, engineers, financial experts, suppliers and the public stakeholders. The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (B.S.C.M.) emphasizes public and private, commercial and residential construction with a focus on sustainable construction methods. This program employs a team-based interdisciplinary learning philosophy. This approach provides students with knowledge for leadership in sustaining our world and with the critical thinking skills required for effective and innovative practice with particular emphasis on technologies needed to solve problems and deliver successful construction projects.
The Construction Management program in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering at FGCU will produce graduates who:
- Create construction management documents for effective project delivery.
- Apply knowledge, technology and technical and management skills to manage the construction process and sustainably construct facilities and physical structures.
- Create written and oral communications appropriate to the construction discipline.
- Analyze construction documents, methods, materials, and equipment used to construct projects for management of construction processes.
Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
Students admitted to FGCU as a degree seeking student in good academic standing may declare a major in construction management. All construction management majors must satisfy the academic milestones as described in the student guidebook. Refer to the Construction Management (B.S.C.M.) Student Guidebook for further information on milestones.
In addition to the program requirements, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 120 credits.
- Complete a minimum of 48 credits at the upper division (3000-4999 level).
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
- Satisfy the College-Level Skills and foreign language entrance requirements.
- Satisfy the Service-Learning requirement.
- Satisfy the Civic Literacy requirement.
- Satisfy the residency requirement: 30 of the last 60 credits, including 12 credits in the major must be completed at FGCU. Also, BCN 3590 Sustainable Approach to Const and BCN 4787 Const Capstone must be taken at FGCU. BCN 3590 Sustainable Approach to Const will satisfy the SCGR Requirement.
- Complete the summer course enrollment requirement.
- Submit an application for graduation by the deadline listed in the FGCU Academic Calendar.
