Transportation & Logistics (TRA)

Introduction to the management of operations in manufacturing and service organizations using the framework of value chain management. The course integrates global and sustainability perspectives into the value chain and its processes.

The course introduces students to the principal analytical tools used in logistics. Students also understand the role of transportation and logistics in an integrated supply chain.

Purchasing is required by all types of goods-producing & service-providing organizations in such sectors as manufacturing, agriculture, health care, & government. This professional business function tries to buy the right good or service at the right quality, in the right quantity, at the right time, at the right price, from the right source, with delivery at the right place within the context of supply chains.

The course focuses on best practices in supply chain operations. Effective use of process analysis and value stream mapping is emphasized.

The course deals with design and management of distribution networks in global markets. Topics cover logistics, transportation, inventory, regulatory issues, reverse logistics, within the context of supply chains. Emerging technologies are discussed.

This course deals with contemporary issues and methodology topics related to the design, planning, control and improvement of the sustainable supply chain in a global context. Issues in supply chain management are examined with focus on: Global perspective; Integrating sustainability into the supply chain design and execution; World class supply chains; Designing and managing networks, distribution models, sourcing models, and process management.
