SYO 3530 - Social Stratification (3 Credits )

Examination of the formal and informal structures which place individuals and groups of people on various levels in social structure and the implications on social behavior, life chances and social mobility.

Prerequisite(s): SYG 2000 or SYG 2010 or SYG 2012 or SYG 2220 or SYG 2231 or SYG 2250 or SYG 2442

SYO 3910 - Directed Independent Study (1-3 Credits )

Under the guidance and supervision of an instructor, one or more students develop a program of reading and possibly research.

SYO 3930 - Special Topics (3 Credits )

Special Topics of current or special interest in the area of social organization.

SYO 4180 - Sociology of Work and Family (3 Credits )

This course focuses on the overlapping worlds of work and family. It examines unpaid work that takes place in or around the home as well as paid labor performed in the workplace with an emphasis on the intersections of social identities (for example, race, class, gender, and sexuality) on the experiences of groups within the family and the labor market.
