SPN 1120C - Beginning Spanish 1 (4 Credits )
This is the first course in the first-year Spanish sequence and introduces students to the Spanish language. The topics included in the course are Spanish grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. Through the application of the grammar and vocabulary, students are introduced to some of the cultures and peoples of Spanish heritage, including figures from the Western canon. Not open to native or near-native speakers of Spanish.

SPN 2032 - Spanish for Health Professions (3 Credits )
This is a communicative approach course for health professionals. Emphasis is on practical application of Spanish (medical vocabulary and communication skills) to effectively treat Spanish speaking patients . The course will also cover the cultural aspects and practices of the Spanish speaking world regarding health issues.

SPN 2220C - Intermediate Spanish 1 (4 Credits )
This is the first semester in the second-year (intermediate level) Spanish sequence. The topics included in the course are Spanish grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. SPN 2221C - Intermediate Spanish 2 (4 Credits )

SPN 2270 - Study Abroad (1-6 Credits )
An intensive study-travel program in a Spanish-speaking country is the focus of this course.

SPN 2532 - Spanish for Educators (3 Credits )
This course is designed to provide future teachers and other professionals in the education field with Spanish language skills that will help bridge the communication gap with Spanish-speaking students and their families. In addition to authentic conversations and proper written communication, emphasis is placed on receptive skills (listening and reading), vocabulary building, and on Hispanic cultures.

SPN 3140 - Intermed Spanish for Business (3 Credits )
This is an intermediate level course oriented to the business world. It prepares students for successful communication in the Spanish-speaking world by building on their existing knowledge and emphasizing practical, real life application of language functions.
SPN 3300 - Spanish Advanced Writing (3 Credits )
A study of syntax, grammar, vocabulary, and writing is the focus of this course. Prerequisite: Placement Test or SPN 2200 and SPN 2201 with a C or better.

SPN 3400 - Conversation and Composition I (3 Credits )
Practice in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing is the focus of this course. The class involves reading texts, collateral reading, reports, and discussions of written compositions. Prerequisite: Placement Test, or Instructor's Authorization.

SPN 3534 - Cinema in Lat. Am. & Spain (3 Credits )
The main goal of this course is to help students gain a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture, particularly the role of cinema in the way Hispanic culture is perceived and (re)defined. Survey of major films and directors from Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. Cover many of the principal countries. Discuss films as cultural, historical, political, & economic products. The course is taught in Spanish.

SPN 4521 - The Americas: Latino Cult.&Soc (3 Credits )
This course offers a comprehensive view of Latino culture and society in literature, film, and other media sources. This course is taught in Spanish and explores the diversity of the Latino groups and Nations ‘cultures. Language and traditions will be explored as they are represented in various art forms and media. It may include the causes and consequences of migration and displacement.

SPN 4910 - Directed Independent Research (3 Credits )
In this course research projects or certain aspects of research are carried out by one or more students under the supervision of an instructor.
