Survey of the major themes and recent findings in behavioral science with regard to the area of lifespan development. Emphasis will be on the major biological, psychological and social developments from conception to death.

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO TEACH STUDENTS ABOUT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF INFANTS, TODDLERS, AND CHILDREN. TOPICS INCLUDE THE STUDY OF THE SOCIAL, COGNITATIVE, PHYSICAL, AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT FROM BIRTH THROUGH CHILDHOOD.

This course focuses on development from adolescence through emerging adulthood. Emphasis will be given to the historical basis of adolescence, as well as the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional phenomena apparent in adolescence and emerging adulthood.

DEP 4404  -  Psych of Adulthood & Aging  (3 Credits )  
A life-span approach to human development across adulthood into late life. Cognitive aging, changes in social functioning, personality development, and adjustment in later life.

Cognitive and psychological changes associated with aging from age related decline to dementias.

DEP 4482  -  Psychology of Death & Dying  (3 Credits )  
This course is an examination of various topics in the area of death and dying. Topics include the developmental trajectory of understanding death, attitudes toward death across the lifetime, stages of dying, grief and mourning in children, adolescents and adults, funeral practices, the hospice movement, euthanasia, and suicide. The emphasis is to live a more meaningful life through exploring the importance of death.

DEP 4611  -  Evolutionary Developmental Psy  (3 Credits )  
This seminar will introduce students to the field of evolutionary developmental psychology. Focus will be on examining the relationship between evolution and ontogeny as it relates to cognitive, personality, affective, and social topics.
